Raksha Bandhan
Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival and also Sikh festival, which celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters. It is celebrated on the full moon of the month of Shraavan. The festival is marked by the tying of a rakhi, or holy thread by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look after her.

Diwali and Annakoot Celebrations Diwali is known as the "Festival of Lights," it symbolizes the victory of good over/ evil, and lamps are lit as a sign of celebration and hope for humankind. Diwali celebrates the return of Lord Rama, King of Ayodhya, with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana to Ayodhya from a war in which he killed the demon king Ravana. It is believed that the people lit oil lamps along the way to light their path in the darkness. The fourth day of Diwali is known as Annakoot meaning mountain of food. On this day gifts of food are presented to God in the shape of a mountain piled before him. |
