About The Event
Why is Networking Important
The small world phenomenon (also known as the small world effect) is the hypothesis that everyone in the world can be reached through a short chain of social acquaintances. The concept gave rise to the famous phrase six degrees of separation after a 1967 small world experiment by social psychologist Stanley Milgram which suggested that two random US citizens were connected on average by a chain of six acquaintances.
In today's downsized business climate, the people whose help you need to get your next job maybe right here in our community.
Principles of Networking
- To Build a Network - and help others build their networks. Make a list of people you know and invite them to this event.
- Talk to as many people as you can at the event. Bring lots of business cards to give to people.
- Learn to ask "What do you do?" with comfort, sincerity and interest.
- Become a better listener. Ask a question and then be quiet until you hear the answer.
- Stay in touch with people you meet even if they can't help you immediately. You don't want to go to someone only when you are desperate.
